Originally a construction and property company, United Fiber System Ltd. (Unifiber) diversified into the forestry and pulp businesses in June 2002. Currently our operations are organised into two core business divisions: (i) the forestry and pulp division, and (ii) the construction and property division.
Unifiber hold a forest concession right for an industrial timber estate of 268,585 hectares in South Kalimantan, Indonesia, through our wholly-owned Indonesian subsidiary PT Hutan Rindang Banua (“PT HRB”) (previously known as PT Menara Hutan Buana (“PT MHB”)). The concession right entitles us to plant, maintain, process and market products extracted from the concession area for a period of 43 years, running from 27 February 1998 until 26 February 2041 and this concession right is renewable for another one hundred years.
Unifiber plans to manufacture pulp (the basic raw material needed to produce paper) through the operation of a greenfield bleached hardwood kraft pulp (“BHKP”) mill (the “MBBM Mill”) to be situated within our forest concession area. The MBBM Mill is currently under development and will operate through PT Marga Buana Bumi Mulia (“PT MBBM”), our wholly-owned Indonesian subsidiary. The MBBM Mill has a planned production capacity of 600,000 tons per annum of BHKP.
In April 2007, our subsidiary, PT Mangium Anugerah Lestari (PT MAL) completed the construction of the woodchip mill in South Kalimantan, which has an annual production capacity of 700,000 tons of wood chips.
For the construction business, during FY2007, Poh Lian Construction secured a number of prestigious projects including recent contracts for Ardmore Park at Anderson Road and Solitaire condominium at Stevens.
Our company vision is to become a major player in the international market pulp industry. We will achieve this by leveraging on our strategic forest asset and creating a fully integrated forestry to pulp operation. We are committed to managing our business in compliance with international compliance standards.
